What is actually different

No server holds the records. Vehicle, fuel and service data live in an on-device store and sync only through the user's own iCloud private database. There is no Carvico database of user car histories — which means there is nothing for us to sell, leak, or lose, and nothing that dies with the company. Sign-in is optional and exists only to attach a Pro purchase.
Receipt scanning that fills the entry. Point the camera at a fuel or service receipt; odometer, volume, cost and station are read off it and prefilled for confirmation. The photo is transmitted over TLS, processed transiently, and never stored.
Honest MPG. Full-tank methodology, with partial fill-ups carried into the next full tank rather than producing invented figures — a real differentiator in a category where several apps get this wrong.
An escape hatch for stranded users. The importer reads the CSV export dialects of Fuelly, Simply Auto, Drivvo, Fuelio, aCar and Road Trip MPG, plus generic spreadsheets — units, currencies and decimal-comma formats detected automatically, every row previewed before saving. Several of those apps have gone years without an update, leaving long-running personal records behind logins nobody is maintaining.
Reminders that match how maintenance actually works. Dual mileage and time intervals — 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first — with colour-coded due status.
Data you can hand over. One-tap CSV export and a formatted PDF service report, both generated entirely on device, designed to give to a mechanic or the next owner.

Carvico is a private car maintenance and fuel log for iPhone — receipt scanning, real MPG, service history and reminders, kept on your device and your own iCloud.

Carvico is a local-first car logbook for iPhone. Photograph a fuel receipt and the fill-up logs itself; service history, documents and dual mileage-and-time reminders live alongside it. Records stay on the device and sync only through the owner's private iCloud database — no account required, no ads, no data selling.

Technical note for reviewers.

Data layer is an on-device store synced via CloudKit's private database, so records are readable only by the user's Apple account. Receipt images are sent over TLS to a processing endpoint, handled transiently and discarded. Optional sign-in and subscription entitlements are the only server-side state. CSV and PDF export are generated on device.

How does the app make money if it doesn't hold data?

Carvico Pro, an auto-renewing subscription that adds unlimited vehicles, more receipt scans, and CSV/PDF export. The free tier is a genuine free tier: full fuel and service logging for one vehicle, reminders, statistics and widgets, with no ads on either plan.

If there's no server, how does receipt scanning work?

The photo is sent over an encrypted connection to a processing endpoint that reads the numbers and returns them, then the image is discarded — it is never stored, and it is not attached to an identity. The extracted fields prefill an entry the user confirms before anything is saved.

What happens to the data if the company disappears?

Nothing. The records are already on the user's device and in their own iCloud account, and CSV export works on device without any server. That is the design goal, and it is a direct response to what happened to users of several abandoned apps in this category.
